If you haven’t tried Beta Glucan yet,  you’re missing out! If you read my comparison on Beta Glucan vs Hyaluronic Acid, you already know the spoiler … I’ll pick beta glucan every time. Hyaluronic acid gets all the marketing, but Beta glucan quietly does the work.

Beta-Glucan hydrates longer, soothes better, and doesn’t give that tight, evaporated feeling some hyaluronic acid serums leave behind. And the serum I keep repurchasing?
iUNIK Beta Glucan Power Moisture Serum. It’s simple, affordable, and one bottle lasts me months, which is rare for something I use daily. No drama. No irritation. Just consistently calm, hydrated skin.

Key Ingredients

This is a simple product with a short ingredient list i.e. does the intended job with minimal risk of irritation.

The key ingredients are:

  • Beta Glucan: offers deep, long-lasting hydration and is known  for its strong moisture binding properties. It also soothes irritation, reddness and supports skin barrier repair making your skin more resilient and less reactive.
  • Glycerin: moisturising
  • Adenosine: improves skin elasticity and skin texture
  • Sodium PCA: naturally occurring moisture-binding ingredient that helps maintain optimal hydration levels

The formulation focuses on hydration and barrier support without unnecessary fragrance or sensitising ingredients making it suitable for most skin types.

The complete ingredient list: Water (Neutral), Glycerin (Good), 1,2-Hexanediol (Neutral), Butylene Glycol (Good), Adenosine (Good), Tromethamine (Neutral), Sodium PCA (Good), Carbomer (Neutral), Beta-Glucan (160,000ppb) (Good), Sodium Polyacrylate (Neutral)

Fragrance free and non-comedogenic.

Application

You dispense the product with a dropper. It can get a little frustrating as the serum has a viscous consistency similar to snail mucin and may take several tries with the dropper before it sucks up into the dropper. Also the dropper is on the smaller end so you may need to double dip to dispense enough of the product onto your face. 3 drops is about right for me.

Once the product is dispensed, the application is very smooth and pleasant. Layers well between other products and is absorbed into the skin quickly so it doesn’t leave behind any sticky residue.

Results

Short term: deeply moisturised, plump and hydrated skin

Long term: reduction in redness and irritation as the skin barrier is repaired

It’s hydration and healing.

As with any skincare product results may vary depending on skin type, climate and the rest of your routine.

Suitability

When to use: Anytime day and/or night. This serum can be used consistently as part of a long-term barrier support routine.

What ingredients to use it with: Strong actives as this product can soothe and reduce the risk of irritation. Think of it like a cushion that softens the impact of stronger treatments. It can also be used alongside other hydrating and soothing products to boost hydration and skin barrier strength.

What ingredients not to use it with: N/A

This product is right for you if you have:

  • dry or dehydrated skin
  • sensitive or reactive skin
  • barrier compromised skin
  • anyone who has skin (just kidding!)

Other comments

Summary of the 1 star reviews from popular online retailers:

  • caused breakouts
  • misleading information, concentration of beta-glucan is 160000ppb not 400000ppb
  • pills and doesn’t layer well under makeup
