This product is my go-to during winter for my body when my skin feels dry, irritated, or just in need of some serious TLC.

La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ is a soothing repairing balm that delivers hydration, barrier support, and calming ingredients in one large never ending tube. I’ve had mine for over a year, likely passed the expiration date but just like food, if it doesn’t smell bad it should be fine.
It’s not glamorous.
It’s not trendy.
But it works.

Why this Balm Works

Cicaplast isn’t just thick and moisturising. It’s built specifically for barrier recovery. Which is very different from regular hydration. Instead of only adding water, it:
  • reduces inflammation
  • strengthens the skin barrier
  • protects compromised skin
  • speeds up recovery
That’s why dermatologists often recommend it after procedures, retinoids, or irritation.

Key Ingredients

The magic of Cicaplast Baume B5+ comes from its combination of soothing and repairing ingredients, designed to support skin recovery and comfort. These include:
  • Panthenol (Vitamin B5): Hydrates, calms irritation, and promotes skin repair.
  • Madecassoside: Derived from Centella Asiatica, it soothes inflammation and supports collagen synthesis.
  • Shea Butter: Deeply moisturizing without clogging pores.
  • Glycerin: Attracts and locks in water for lasting hydration.
  • Zinc: Supports barrier repair and helps reduce inflammation.

Fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and suitable for sensitive skin

Application

The balm comes in a squeezable tube, making it easy to dispense and hygienic. It has a thick, creamy texture that does leave a tangible film on the skin however it isn’t tacky or sticky, it feels more oily. I feel like people would either love or hate this about the balm. It is thick, not elegant, not lightweight, not “invisible finish”, it’s a balm. Personally? That’s exactly why I like it.

You can use a pea-sized amount on problem areas or apply it all over your body if your skin is feeling particularly dry or sensitive. A little goes a long way!  It claims that it layers beautifully under makeup,  but because I only use it for my body I haven’t tested that.

Even though I only use the balm for my body you can also apply the balm on the face but given how rich it is I feel like it would be too much for most people especially if you have oily skin.

Results

What I love about this balm is how versatile it is:
Short term: Immediately calms redness, hydrates dry patches, and soothes irritation.
Long term: Strengthens the skin barrier, reduces sensitivity, and helps skin recover faster from environmental stressors or acne treatments.
I always find myself reaching for it every winter because it is by far the most hydrating product I have found.

How I use it

I have oily skin so I would only apply this to my body on days when my skin feels dry, inflamed or tight, it works like a mini skin reboot. During winter I may even use it everyday, especially when the heater is on all day.

I don’t treat this like a daily lotion, I treat it like a rescue product.

Suitability

When to use: Daily or as needed, morning and/or night.
What ingredients to pair it with: Particularly useful after exfoliation, retinoids, or acne treatments.
What ingredients not to use it with: Given its soothing formula, conflicts are rare.
Suitable for people with the following skin conditions:
  • Sensitive or reactive skin
  • Dry or dehydrated skin
  • Redness or irritation
  • Damaged skin barrier
Maybe skip or use sparingly if:
  • you have very oily skin
  • you dislike heavy textures
  • you want something lightweight for daytime
