Oil cleansers have become popular because they follow a simple chemistry rule: oil dissolves oil. Instead of stripping the skin like foaming cleansers, cleansing oils bind to makeup, sunscreen, and excess sebum so they can be rinsed away gently. This makes them especially useful for heavy sunscreen, waterproof makeup, or dry and sensitive skin types. But not all cleansing oils feel the same. Some rinse clean, while others leave residue depending on the oil blend and emulsifiers.

I’ve been a huge supporter of double cleansing and starting off with an oil cleanser so I decided to test the viral Manyo Pure Cleansing Oil.

This product went viral and I folded faster than the plastic fork in a instant ramen noodle cup.

I not only bought one but two of the Manyo Pure Cleansing Oil because firstly, I love a good deal and secondly the idea that I could clean out my pores and actually feel all the gunk balling up and rolling off my skin when I use this oil was the stuff of dreams.

Key Ingredients

The key ingredients are….. Drum roll please…. OILS!

  • Soybean oil: Helps dissolve makeup, sunscreen and excess sebum

The complete ingredient list: Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil (Good), Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil (Good), Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate (Neutral), Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil (Good), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (Good), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Good), Squalane (Good), Isoamyl Laurate (Neutral), Camellia Japonica Seed Oil (Good), Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil (Good), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (Good), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil (Good), Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil (Good), Orbignya Oleifera Seed Oil (Good), Saponaria Officinalis Leaf Extract (Good), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Good), Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil (Good), Rice Ferment Filtrate (Sake) (Good), Decyl glucoside (Neutral), Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract (Good), Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil (Neutral), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract (Good), Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil (Good), Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil (Good), Tocopherol (Good)

Fragrance free but it does have essential oils and all the extracts increases the risks of allergic reactions.

Application

Based on the instructions on the bottle you apply this onto dry skin, rub it in, put water on your hands and then rub it in some more before washing it off.

Since you are rubbing it on dry skin you can’t be stingy with the product, I use 2-3 pumps and still I found it hard to rub into my eyelashes to remove my mascara. When you wet your hands and rub again it goes much easier.

Washing it off was difficult. It takes forever and it leaves a greasy residue behind especially on your eyelids because I try not to rub vigorously in that area. You would definitely need to double cleanse when using this product.

Final Comments

Overall the application experience was okay, not terrible that it is a deal breaker but also not the most enjoyable. There is also a strong smell, not unpleasant and excusable given that it comes from the oils and not artificial fragrances.

When you go in a second time with wet hands as you are rubbing the oil in your skin you do feel little bits of what I’m assuming is just dead skin cells rolling off which is satisfying, but I don’t think it goes deep into your pores and to be honest I think that is just too much to expect from any cleanser.

Not a holy grail for me but still a good product that is worth a try i.e. only buy one bottle first.
